Intraday Commentary From Jim Bianco

Maybe the problem is that we compare this to investing. How leveraged ETFs compare to prediction markets and sports betting might be a better comparison.

*YEN SLIDES TO WEAKEST LEVEL VERSUS DOLLAR SINCE 1986

We had a comment in “What We’re Reading” today. Despite strong performance, the yen has seen a significant increase in net short positioning by investors.

It’s not just large speculators either. Both asset managers and large speculators have driven their yen positioning and, consequently, the 5-year z-score, down to August 2024 levels.

In other words, professional trades are fighting the Yen rally … and losing.
